How to find institutions that suit your career goals

News & Views

Preparing for an auspicious future career in such an unprecedented and rapidly evolving world is downright daunting. Especially when you have to tread the path of UTME and Post UTME or any other entrance exam, which makes the entire process even more of a herculean task. You definitely do not want to be caught in the web of being stuck in a career path that is not right for you, neither do you want to constantly experience radical shifts between careers.

To unlock the key that may cause you to go down that steep slope, you must, from the onset, seek out institutions that will gift you the required exposure and set you on the path to self-discovery. It is noteworthy for you to realise that you are not alone in this struggle, so do not fret nor frown. NGRCAMPUS has got your back 100%. Check out these steps you can take towards finding an institution that will be the best fit for your career goals.

  • Do not rely on rankings: I know rankings are a good start, but they are not always the best route. You may be in a top-ranked school but that school may not have requisite exposure that you need to move forward with your career long term. An institution may be rated first, but trust me, it could be lacking some fundamental content that would not be made open until you find yourself there, and realise that it had just been basking in lost glory.
  • Draw up a list of institutions and ensure to visit each schools’ website frequently, this will help you have a surface overview of the institution.
  • Send an email if you have additional questions, good institutions with strong content will always reply to you.
  • Endeavour to visit the schools’ social media pages and just take a seat on their comment section, you will be surprised how much information will be fed to you, plus you will also get a feel of their community and student life.
  • Bear in mind that the country is not entirely fresh graduate friendly, and just hoping that everything will fall in place in due time is not enough. So ensure to equip yourself with soft skills because academic knowledge is not all there is in the real world.
  • Also know that soft skills are transferrable between professions. So if it happens that you stumble upon a different career path, there are skills to develop in that field, so do the needful.
  • Before you pay that acceptance fee, be sure to engage a professional both online and offline, they have a wealth of knowledge to disseminate and their input will do your career a world of good.

Remember that as a student, it is your right to know as much as you want, so seek an institution that will expose you to learn in both theory and practice.

Albert Einstein said, “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow, but never stop questioning’’.

You have the power as a student to broaden or expand your scope, think about what your learnings can do for someone else, think of yourself as an agent of impact, who people would be excited to tap knowledge from. “students are not in school to worship what they know but to question it and further develop more from what they have been exposed to’’.
